[ He's not sure he catches Tony's meaning at first, but then when he does, his whole face melts into such a fond, happy expression. How romantic, to have vows for just the two of them. He'll have to remember this when he's sober, he'll have to write a whole other set of them for just Tony's ears.
And maybe, when they're sated after a few rounds, they'll finally cool off enough energy to laze around and read each other their vows, the ones they'd written just for each other.
Sunshine could beam from Steve and it'd look no different than how he does now. ]
Hah--
I couldn't figure out how to end those. I'll figure it out for the wedding.
[ He traces some of Tony's features with the tip of his finger, just trying to map him out, just trying to put some thoughts together. ]
Hazy spring evening Swollen with laughter Abundant with gaiety Yet the company I seek: A private moment With you.
[ Not his best, but he didn't finish it with bye. ]
[Because it's cute. Steve is cute. Endlessly. And Tony's very appreciative that he gets to have all that to himself. But yes, ending his vows with bye is probably not the best idea.
He's not expecting another right now, and when Steve starts he perches a little more on his shoulder, resting his head there turned towards him. Watching. Smile soft and sweet and just on the light side of still inebriated. A look that radiates fondness. Lovestruck. More of that rumination that he can't believe his luck that this man in this bed is his.]
You know- this might come as a shock I'm sure- I was never really into the whole poetry scene. But. I could definitely listen to you all night.
[Tony can't fathom the depths of Steve's artistic mind. His doesn't work that way. They see the world differently, parse through it with different lenses at times. Maybe that's part of the charm of it, the awe. But the rest is just Steve.]
[ He was very drunk at that time, and it's wearing off now so he's not nearly drunk enough to end his poetry in bye. And even though he'd gotten pretty slammed earlier, he's just having a pleasant time now.
Which means, lucky for him, no hangover tomorrow. Isn't he a total jerk that way?
Steve peers up at Tony and brushes his hair back, wanting to look in his eyes, bright and brown and full of possibilities and endless wonder. He thinks he used to get the same feeling for his first few halo jumps.
But Tony gives that to him every time. ]
Sliver of moon Thin curved line On a dark night The moon Must be jealous Of your smile.
[There's a little cut off response as Steve preoccupies his mouth, the sound melting into a quiet exhale of a moan. Soft and otherwise sweet, smiling against his lips where he legitimately otherwise cannot help himself.]
Part of me wants to ask for a handwritten book of all your poetry- but I know if I ask you'll actually do it-
[But he is asking anyway by putting the idea out there. It's still something he'd treasure anyway, like he does with Steve's drawings. Either the paper ones that he keeps in his drawer, or the newer ones that are all meant to go into that digital frame on his desk. He'll keep everything Steve makes for him because he treasures it all.
Each of it unique. Not something anyone else can ever give him. Steve's been amazing in that way.]
If we're not careful- by the way- I'm liable- I'm... tired. I might fall asleep.
[Getting drunk and having amazing sex will do that to a normal person. So he feels like a fair warning is in order.]
[ Well, that's all right by Steve, because he's feeling very satisfied and very happy and drunk, so he's right there with Tony. But. ]
Okay. One second.
[ He gives Tony a quick little kiss and then crawls out of bed, stumbling around for a bit while he stalks off to the bathroom to rinse off and then bring a warm and wet towel back to wipe Tony off, since it's probably a bad idea to shower right now. ]
I love you, Tony Stark.
[ He smiles into Tony's neck, as he gently wipes him clean. They will probably want a shower first thing in the morning, or, second thing after the hangover subsides, but it can wait. ]
Tony Stark-Rogers.
[ He amends. It's not yet, but he's trying it out, for practice, not that he'd ever forget. He's waiting for it to be on bated breath, after all. ]
[The kiss does nothing to mitigate the absolutely bratty and unhappy noise that leaks out of him when Steve disappears. The warmth and the weight just gone and it's so completely unfair and definitely not what he asked for. But second to his complaining as it dies down is then an immediate quietness in the room as he drifts.
Worn out, sated, and drunk. A definite power-combo if ever there was one.
He only half comes back into himself when Steve returns.]
Thank you. I love you. Steve Rogers.
[Words that same kind of fleeting and soft where the rest of him is a few seconds away from packing it in. And he can't really seem to help his dopey besotted smile then, looking at Steve like he's every bit a dream.]
Steve Stark-Rogers.
[Arm reaching lazily up to loop across his shoulders and greedily hang on to him.]
Don't go, Steve Stark-Rogers. Stay here. [Like he can use that as a bargaining chip for ridiculous behavior.]
[ If he thinks he can use it as a bargaining chip, well, he'd be right. Steve is not leaving his side; he drops the towel off on the nightstand and returns to Tony, wrapping arms around his waist, permanent smile fixed on his face so hard that his cheeks might start to hurt, through the drunkenness, past the serum. ]
Tony Stark-Rogers, you are a menace. But I'll stay.
[ He'll stay forever, because that's what they're agreeing to in a few short months that can't come soon enough. If not for all the planning and all the expectations, Steve would've marched Tony down to a courthouse by now and just said all his vows: the ones meant for him, and the ones meant for everyone, and married him already.
Because while he wants this wedding, what he really wants is this marriage. There are precious few things that Steve has wanted so badly in his life he couldn't wait for them, and this was one of those things. ]
I'll stay, Tony Stark-Rogers, because you are the most demanding, most frustrating, beautiful, and amazing human being I've ever met.
[ He pulls Tony in, to rest against his chest, thunderous heartbeat right below his skin, warm and firm. He might have sobered up a tiny bit, but the feelings remain, and the happiness and playfulness are holding strong. ]
And I'm gonna write down all my poems for you. And fill up the whole book.
[It starts off slow and soft, the rumbling noise that emanates from his chest. Gentle laughter, as he lets Steve finish up. Lets Steve tug and pull him while he's lying around like the dead weight that he feels like. But the second they're close enough, he sticks to him like glue, nuzzling in against Steve's skin, legs tangled together.]
I'm your menace.
[A few beats behind. Continuing still.]
Your most demanding most frustrating beautiful and amazing human. And I'll read every single page of that book. Because I love you. I don't think I've ever loved anyone like you. And I never will either. And if I fall asleep it's not because I don't love you it's because you've very comfy.
[And he's still more than a touch drunk, weight heavy against Steve after all that rambling. But, just one more time for good measure:]
[ Steve thinks he might enjoy this more sober, but he does love loving, rambling Tony. He's so sweet, and he always says the sweetest things. But he's sure he does much the same, since when he's drunk all he can seem to think about is Tony and how much he loves Tony and that he's floored, still, after all this time, that they get to be together. Tony wants him. Tony loves him.
And then Steve is laughing too, laughing at how cute Tony is, laughing that their lives for the moment are so, so good. ]
You can sleep, Tony. I'll be here in the morning. And any morning after that, 'slong as you want me to be. 'Cause I love you.
[ Which okay, is not a promise he should be making because they're them and that means that they'll have plenty of days where they won't get to spend it together. There will be so many calls from different timezones, between battles and company things, missions and corporations and conferences, that'll get between them.
But it's a nice thought. And Steve, moreso when drunk, has his ideals and his optimism in boundless amounts. ]
My favorite human in the whole universe.
[ He says this, followed by a yawn. Okay. He might also be succumbing to sleep. ]
All of them. Want you here for all of them. Just like this.
[Naked and warm and all his. He settles a little more atop him, weight heavy as he slips a little further down that slope towards sleep. Reaching up he captures Steve's hand, fingers locking together with Steve's. They probably won't stay like this all night, but it's definitely how he's about to fall asleep.
He nuzzles into Steve's shoulder, finding the exact right spot there where he gets comfortable.
Tonight was nice, despite the late start. Despite them being that couple, surely to no one's surprise. Having a nice party night with their friends, getting a little too drunk, and then sneaking out together and falling into bed.
Can't life always be this good? This easy?]
My favorite too- and mine.
[Slightly incoherent in his descent into dozing, but he just can't help himself. Always needing to make sure there's a response.]
[ Tony's quickly fading into sleep, but Steve doesn't find that he minds at all, because they'll have tomorrow, and the day after, and all the ones after that. And, okay, maybe he's trying to stave off sleep because he knows that they'll both have hangovers tomorrow, and might not even want to be in each other's company for that.
But, right now, he laces their hands, and places them between their hearts. Resting on them both, listening to the solid heartbeats as if conducted by their hands passing back and forth between their bodies in a current. ]
All yours. Forever.
[ He reaches to adjust his ring, just to remind himself that it's there. It's beautiful, of course, extremely tasteful, and custom. A little piece of Tony, crafted specifically for him, reminding him always that it was lovingly made for him. ]
Go to sleep. I'll wake you when I get up in the morning.
